This traditional oriental carpet is from a rug woven during the reign of Mughal emperor Jahangir (r.1605-27), a patron of art, science and architecture. His tomb is placed near Shalimar Gardens in Lahore in Pakistan's Punjab Province. The Arabic word Shalimar loosely translates as master of gardens. Light green is the color of spring and the yearly renewal of the earth, the symbol of paradise on earth, of gardens and an escape from the daily difficulties of life.
