Mughal silk – ivory is a hand-knotted wool Indian carpet with a touch of silk. Hand-knotted on looms located in the ancient city of Jaipur, this carpet inspired William Morris and other Arts and Crafts designers. The design is from a carpet woven during the reign of Jahangir (r.1605-27) when western traders introduced botanical paintings to India. The flower heads appear on a trellis formed by curved serrated leaves. The color palette represents the colors of the Rajasthan region where Jaipur is located. Ivory represents purity, peace, and cleanliness. Works well with Stickley's Modern collection and traditionally styled rooms.
