Most of us think of rugs and carpets as the same thing, but over time a carpet has come to mean wall to wall and tacked down. Rugs have traditionally been considered to be smaller, something one rolls up and takes along from place to place. Carpets and rugs were once hung on walls and tables as a sign of wealth. Today they lie about, centered under a dining or coffee table or placed at the foot of the bed, something soft and cozy for bare feet.
